8 Mother’s Day Gifts For The Fashionable Mom

    by Sarah Morrison

If you’re still pondering over what to gift your mother this Mother’s Day, then you’re not alone. If you consider your mother to be one of the most stylish women on the planet, then you’re definitely not alone. By now, you’ve likely dabbled in all of the foolproof gifting categories, in search of that gem of a gift worth bestowing on your mother. Skincare, candles, perfume? Sure, those may all be well and safe, but by contrast, they also beg another question worth considering: why not put all of your eggs in one decidedly sartorial basket this year and gift your fashion-inclined mother a timeless apparel piece or statement accessory? Perhaps a sleek jacket, a Panama hat, or even a LBD (one can never have enough!) to enhance her well-edited wardrobe. Now, accessories aside, it’s widely understood that such genre of gifting is a delicate dance, however, with a little forward-thinking (be sure to get that sizing!), and some curated inspiration below, you’re sure to score major brownie points from mother dearest now, and for years to come.

    1. Marcia Waist Detail Dress in Pink by Reiss ($320)

Nothing says spring quite like a feminine frock crafted in one of the season’s finest tones. This coral colored dress by Reiss is unique for its soft, slightly off-the-shoulder neckline and unexpected for its asymmetrical sleeves. Mom will love its sophisticated knee-length hem and easy fit throughout the body.

    2. Organic Cotton Watercolor Scarf in Light Cicory by Eileen Fisher ($158)

The foundation of any spring wardrobe will forever include a divinely delicate scarf. This lightweight version from Eileen Fisher is evocative of a watercolor painting, lending an artisanal quality to the accessory of the moment.

Crafted in what’s arguably the print of the season, this floral skirt by Self-Portrait is a standout for its subtle juxtaposed design and modern, asymmetrical hem. Its easy shape and flattering drape will seal the deal for Mom.

    4. Ambrah Low-Heel in Natural by Club Monaco ($249)

An everyday silhouette gets a luxe update with the introduction of this cool low-heel number by Club Monaco. An embossed leather design in ever-versatile beige is elevated by an edgy crocodile pattern. A slim adjustable ankle strap ensures a comfortable fit that allows Mom to get around town with ease.

    5. Panama Hat in White by Rag & Bone ($230)

Unexpected and ultra-cool, this Panama hat is the statement piece Mom’s been waiting for. Its lightweight straw design and contrasting grosgrain band is the definition of minimal style with maximum impact.

    6. Essential Shirt in True Black by Equipment ($228)

One can never have enough button-down blouses to go around. An essential for work or for play, this version from Equipment is beloved for its flattering, not-too-fitted shape and sleek front button closure. Any minimally-minded mom is sure to have this piece on heavy rotation now and always.

    8. Rain Rebel Jacket by Lululemon ($228)

6 Activewear Brands Every Stylish Woman Should Know Right Now

written and edited by sarah morrison

As a positively reluctant gym goer partial to business casual, my workout wardrobe (or should I say athleisure wardrobe) certainly leaves much to be desired. Often left high-and-dry (no pun intended!) more times than I care to admit, the performance pants of yesteryear that comprise my fitness drawer are certainly nothing to write home about. But now, as a freshly minted fashion writer, I can’t afford to leave any sartorial stone unturned any longer (or forgo the gym for that matter—after all, summer’s right around the corner!). Which is why, with a little help from my friends at Google, I’ve taken to the web to scour its furthest reaches in order to bring you my personal lens on the most functional and stylish activewear gems out there today. written and edited by sarah morrison

This season, take a page out of your nearest GQ magazine and turn to a chic, borrowed-from-the-boys look to close your next deal. Clean and effortlessly sophisticated, this tried-and-true trend lends just the right dose of structure to achieve that elusive, feminine meets masculine aesthetic. Reach for these 5 essentials and you’ll not only become the envy of all, but you’ll nail the pitch too.

    1. The White Button-Down

A foolproof option for 9-to-5 and beyond, a crisp, white button down has the power to transform any outfit. This version by Misha Nonoo takes a cue from menswear with its longer hem and cuffs, which can be worn tucked under a black blazer for a prim and proper look, or styled simply on its own. Throw a lace camisole underneath for a feminine finish.

    The Husband Shirt, $185, mishanonoo.com

    2. The Tailored Trousers

Put your best foot forward with a classic tailored pant, made feminine with a slim fit and a slightly cropped, flared cut at the ankles. Juxtapose the piece with an oversized dinner jacket to achieve the perfectly balanced, borrowed-from-the-boys look.

    3. The Tuxedo Jacket

Wrap yourself in a luxe tuxedo jacket to channel old world charm in your next board meeting. This elegant piece from Brooks Brothers, both feminine and sharp, is bound to be on heavy rotation in your closet year-round. 4. The Oxfords

A surefire way to add instant cool to your weekday ensemble? The answer lies in these sleek boyish oxfords.
